Sweet Shrub

I was pleased to see two Sweet Shrub (or Sweet Betsy) blooms along the campground road this morning.  When you crush one between your hands, you get a pleasant fragrance.  In the past, ladies would crush them and put them in their pocket to smell good.

This little mushroom is growing on a mossy log on the banks of Big Creek.

I call this a family of ferns.

Here is Andy walking the creek path somewhat ahead of me.  I had stopped to take pictures of ferns.

Big Creek never looks very big in my pictures.  This spot is probably twenty to thirty yards wide.

On the radio:  We did not hear the beginning of an incident as we were walking around the campground at the time.  The first I noticed was that park rangers were stationing themselves in various positions looking for something or someone.  Then we heard, "Emergency Traffic Only".  The rangers seemed to be tracking a male and female.  We heard Ranger Heath reporting information from a witness.  Then, the rangers and Gatlinburg police had tracked the couple to a house (I presume) in Gatlinburg. One ranger reported hearing loud arguing and crying coming from the house. They had a dog coming to the scene.  Ranger Heath had pictures of the two running up a hill. After a long period of radio silence, they were discussing photos from a witness cell phone and descriptions.  In the end, we finally heard that the incident was a hit-and-run vehicle event. They were impounding the vehicle.
